Where Were We?

Tell this page where you are. It will remind you what the book has said so far, show where today's chapters fit, and point out the lines that tie them back to what you have already read.

chapters a day

Where we were

The far past in a line, the section you just finished in a paragraph, and the last chapters you read in full: the detail sharpens as it nears today. Open any line for more.

Today

Threads

threads that run through the book, chapter by chapter. Chapters you have read are solid, today's are shaded, and the rest are faint. Open a thread to see every passage and how the idea develops.

The whole book

Every part, section, and chapter. Choose a chapter to read from there.

How this works

The outline
Parts and sections drawn where most commentaries draw them, moved to the nearest chapter break. Where a major commentator draws a line differently, the section's note says so.
The summaries
Every part, section, and chapter has a short summary written for this page, with Claude, from the text and the commentaries below. They are readings, not the last word. Each section is framed by the question it answers, because an argument is a chain of questions and answers.
Echoes
places where a later passage picks up an earlier one: the same phrase, the same image, or a promise kept. They are chosen by hand, and every one shows both verses so you can judge the link for yourself.
Threads
Found by searching the Bible text for the words listed with each thread. A few passages that say the same thing in other words are added by hand, and a few uses of a word in an unrelated sense are left out; each thread lists both.
Checks
A script in the repository checks every quotation on this page against the text of the verse it cites, and re-checks the countable claims the prose makes (how often a word appears, where it appears last, which lines repeat word for word) against the text.
Your place
Kept in this browser only, and in the page address, so a bookmark returns you to the same reading.
